About Rancho Santa Margarita
‘A small city with the soul of a small village’ is the motto for Rancho Santa Margarita, a city incorporated in 2000 as the 33rd city in Orange County. The city was planned as an ‘Urban Village’, offering the best of two worlds: all of the elements and advantages of a small city plus the quality of life of a small village. Located along the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains, the city has a population of over 48,000. The second safest city in the State of California, Rancho Santa Margarita was recently named one of the ‘county’s best places to live’ in 2003-2004. The city’s business environment is extremely friendly and takes an active role helping business owners and entrepreneurs get started. Rancho Santa Margarita has more than 250 home-based businesses, a form of business that is encouraged by civic leaders. The city boasts more than 70 restaurants and receives guests from all around Orange County for ‘dinner on the town.’ The Rancho Santa Margarita Landscape and Recreation Corporation is one of the common community areas in town, and includes a beautiful 13-acre lake with a swimming lagoon, four community pools and nine community parks with numerous sports fields, bike paths, an outdoor amphitheater and the 3,100-acre O’Neill Regional Park offering a six-mile hike across Saddleback Valley. There are five master associations, which include Dove Canyon, Rancho Cielo, Robinson Ranch, Trabuco Highlands and Walden. These associations also have parks. The Bell Tower Regional Community Center serves as a hub for social, cultural, civic and recreational activities for residents and includes a Cox Communications Technology Center offering 1,200 square feet of computer-based activities. The city has a new skateboard park and dog park that serves as a centralized gathering place for residents. The skate park has 12,000 square feet of ramps, bowls and benches; while the dog park is around one acre and includes benches, water fountains and public restroom facilities. Surrounded by beautiful glistening mountains, with a 3,100 acre park, a multitude of restaurants, shops and retails service, Rancho Santa Margarita has managed to combine the best of two worlds, bringing understanding to the city’s motto. Points of Interest include: Lago Beach Club, community pools & tennis courts – privately owned facilities by Rancho Santa Margarita homeowners and SAMLARC, master associations for the Rancho Santa Margarita community; O’Neill Regional Park, Rancho Santa Margarita Skate Park and the Rancho Santa Margarita Dog Park.
